Turtle

"Imagine that the whole earth was covered with water, and a man was to throw a yoke with a hole in it into the water. Blown by the wind, that yoke would drift north, south, east and west. Now, suppose that once in hundred years a blind turtle would rise to the surface. What do you think? Would that turtle put his head through the hole in the yoke as he rose to the surface once in a hundred years?"

"It is unlikely Lord."

"Well, it is just as unlikely that one will be born as a human being; it is just unlikely that a Tathagata, a Noble One, a fully enlightened Buddha should arise in the world; and it is just as unlikely that the Dhamma and discipline of the Tathagata should be taught. But now you have been born as a human being, a Tathagata has arisen and the Dhamma has been taught. Therefore, strive to realize the Four Noble Truths."

lift the uvula?

First time in my life I heard of this "uvula" word, the whole night been figuring how to lift that thing?

trying to google for it brought me to this page: http://www.crmav.com/fo/forums/52/52461091771774.html "She asks me to make sure I'm using my mouth, not my throat to lift the uvula."this makes it worse... i was using my throat...

According to http://www.limetea.net/singing.html,

"OK, eez better! Now you must leeft-- how you say…" He pointed to his gaping mouth.

"Lift the mouth?" I suggested.

"No! Inside!"

"Lift the tongue?"

"No! Back! Ze leetle one!" He wiggled his finger like he was stirring a martini.

"The uvula?"

"Yes! Zis one! Leeft him up!"

Lift the uvula? He might as well have asked me to flex my pancreas. Nonetheless, I peered into the tarnished mirror on the brick wall of the studio and experimented with contorting muscles in my neck, throat, forehead, shoulders-- nothing seemed to work.

"It's impossible." I whined. "I can't do it."

Mr. Ritmanis snorted. "Ha! Zis is difference betveen Latvia and America! In Latvia, ve leeft him up. Zis how ve sing. Is simple."

This is not good... life the uvula... life the uvula.. it's going to haunt me for the rest of the week trying to figure out HOW TO lift it properly...
