Turtle

"Imagine that the whole earth was covered with water, and a man was to throw a yoke with a hole in it into the water. Blown by the wind, that yoke would drift north, south, east and west. Now, suppose that once in hundred years a blind turtle would rise to the surface. What do you think? Would that turtle put his head through the hole in the yoke as he rose to the surface once in a hundred years?"

"It is unlikely Lord."

"Well, it is just as unlikely that one will be born as a human being; it is just unlikely that a Tathagata, a Noble One, a fully enlightened Buddha should arise in the world; and it is just as unlikely that the Dhamma and discipline of the Tathagata should be taught. But now you have been born as a human being, a Tathagata has arisen and the Dhamma has been taught. Therefore, strive to realize the Four Noble Truths."

SH reminded me of a long ago dream

I once dreamed of becoming a piano teacher... how nice it would be to surround my life with just teaching and music... I mean playing music, I never believed I can really be a pro in singing, so I'm quite contented with using other instrument to make music, instead of using my own voice/body as an instrument.

Anyway, I told SH about my dilemma, I won't get any answer from my PM or the ED, of course they would prefer me to stay and they can't be encouraging me to go for the new job, unless it's a very cool job? Which, unfortunately, it's not that super cool, but it's enough for me. I was more motivated by the three lady managers who interviewed me, than the job itself. The three ladies look very nice to work with.

She gave me some sound answers, one of it suddenly talking about her own plan to take Masters in Education, she even has a 4-year-plan for that purpose, teaching in school for two years and in the meantime take MBA, then when she has the experience in teaching she can apply for the Masters in Education. Somehow it prompted me to tell her of how I thought of teaching piano!

I've told this "dream" of mine to quite a number of people on different occasions, and everytime I tell them, they encouraged me to go for it. I wonder why I am holding back, when it seems very clear (to those people I talked to) that, just go for music, even if it means taking a year off to study Diploma in Music, full time.

Maybe I am afraid to take this step. It's so different from what I've been studying. And it doesn't matter what kind of advice I gave to other people to do what they like, I can't seem to be taking the same medicine I'm giving to other people.

Back to the banking job, tomorrow I gotta phone one of the lady managers and ask her if I'm able to extend my employment in my current job? The HR lady is nice, she told me maybe you can speak to BT so that she can help you prioritise?

People in an organization, very very important element, they either do it so well that you would want to do business with them or be part of them, or they just have plain rude behaviour that you never want to speak to them again...

walauh.. did u check out SH's music blog? That is I'm thinking the same SH that u're writing. But she's not the only music teacher around, my age. My schoolmate also teaching piano part time, taking education part time (KPSI or whatever thing), teaching primary school same time. It's not easy to hold so many jobs at the same time, but to be a rich piano teacher, u gotta gain 'experience' and establish your name.

Then what u learn in business applies. How you be your own CEO, your own MD, your own sales director. Maybe you wanna partner with a few other SH, to set up
your own music school -- that's business!

If people who did piano all the way until grade8, do not make a living out of it -- its kinda 'sayang'. If I have the talent, and didn't fail my grade 6, I would have go forth to make big bucks! (in my community, every family would send their kids go learn music)

The investment your parents put in all the years in your music lessons, cannot compare with investment of the 3 years in business school. YET, business school is never a waste, you apply business in anywhere!

'Nice' people in corporate world do not 'challenge' us, to use brain more, to test ourselves. Only with 'difficult' bosses that we really test ourselves in the battlefield. Then you'll know how well you are! Wether in dealing with difficulty, in handling situations, in relationships with people.

This give you more credential when you jump company, potential interviewer testing you for a higher position, but you cannot relate to any difficult situations :P you'll be brand "too raw".

I think I must have crap too much. Make sense?
