and... the greatest source of frustration when you don't know why the hell you need to work on things or study what you need to study at school
i'm glad i realise this quite early, perhaps in my final year in uni... and to quote my immediate supervisor, "when you face difficulty, that's where the learning curve is"... i absolutely agree with her.
when you don't know what's the ultimate purpose of what you're doing, what's the purpose of doing what you're doing when you do not know where you want to go? like what the cheshire cat said to Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" something along this line of thought, if you do not know where you want to go, it does not matter what direction you take... and that's when all the troubles come because you'll be doing all the wrong things and go round and round in the maze of life. even if you're doing something right, the value might not be there because you won't be able to recognize it.
i'm now quite happy with what i'm doing at the workplace... the managers in my department put me in the right place to deal with some "reaching out to you" activities (more for business purpose); compiling news in the market that will affect our business and consumers spending; and most interesting of all, working on an incentive plan to motivate salespeople and to drive sales to meet the budget.
i have the chance to work on figures and finding a way to present to upper level management to sell the proposal. still in the process, and my supervisor has been very kind to share her knowledge, and to allow me to take time to work on it, and keep her updated on what i'm doing... no one has been "barking" at me for two weeks... wow, how nice, yet i'm learning!
for two weeks, it really does not seem like what other people have been telling me about the company... that it will be very hard work but great place to learn... and not an easy company to work in... maybe what they say is true... and i should be grateful to land a job in this division (which has just been set up in Dec 2004); with colleagues who are willing to share and don't shout at sub-ordinates in order to get the work done... good managers...

Turtle
"Imagine that the whole earth was covered with water, and a man was to throw a yoke with a hole in it into the water. Blown by the wind, that yoke would drift north, south, east and west. Now, suppose that once in hundred years a blind turtle would rise to the surface. What do you think? Would that turtle put his head through the hole in the yoke as he rose to the surface once in a hundred years?"
"It is unlikely Lord."
"Well, it is just as unlikely that one will be born as a human being; it is just unlikely that a Tathagata, a Noble One, a fully enlightened Buddha should arise in the world; and it is just as unlikely that the Dhamma and discipline of the Tathagata should be taught. But now you have been born as a human being, a Tathagata has arisen and the Dhamma has been taught. Therefore, strive to realize the Four Noble Truths."
