Turtle

"Imagine that the whole earth was covered with water, and a man was to throw a yoke with a hole in it into the water. Blown by the wind, that yoke would drift north, south, east and west. Now, suppose that once in hundred years a blind turtle would rise to the surface. What do you think? Would that turtle put his head through the hole in the yoke as he rose to the surface once in a hundred years?"

"It is unlikely Lord."

"Well, it is just as unlikely that one will be born as a human being; it is just unlikely that a Tathagata, a Noble One, a fully enlightened Buddha should arise in the world; and it is just as unlikely that the Dhamma and discipline of the Tathagata should be taught. But now you have been born as a human being, a Tathagata has arisen and the Dhamma has been taught. Therefore, strive to realize the Four Noble Truths."

FISH!

When I first stepped into this office, I saw some "fish plush toys" lying around. I casually remarked that there are a lot of "fishes" in the office. It so happened that I was standing near the head of the FISH! committee of the company, so, ok, I knew who the head was then. Back then it's just another committee of another organization.

After being here for about 6 months, I realised that there is something different about the office environment. It's different from where I used to work, the people are happy, they are co-operative, they take pride in their work and it seems a fun place to work in. Finally FISH! philosophy fits in, perhaps it does make a difference.

FISH! philosophy sounds very simple when I searched for it on Google, most sites give the essence of the philosophy with a link back to the official website.

Perhaps simple things which are most beautiful are most difficult to understand and to adopt in real life. "Simplicity is the key to happiness." :) I still remember Allex's "philosophy" for the 25th IDC, that phrase sounded so "classic", another beautiful quote on simplicity and/or happiness. But simple things are as hard to explain as they are simple. Who would have thought it nearly killed us to define what is simplicity and how to link it to happiness and eventually to the four noble truths.

Nevertheless, 25th IDC was a bitter sweet experience for me. I have grown so much more because of it. True, I made lots of mistakes, but with it came courage, friendship, maturity, life-time experience as an IDC programmer, etc. The camp has certainly made an impact on myself. It's also true that I tend to forget, when life is complex I forget the basic things in life. But at least I come back to it when I remember.

Well, back to FISH! I'd just like to summarise the four fins of the fish, as what other websites have done. Reasons being:
(1) I haven't read that book
(2) I haven't researched much on it
(3) I just want to put it up here because I'm impressed with this office's culture and the fishy activities they're coming up with

FISH! Philosophy
~Be There~
~Play~
~Make Their Day~
~Choose Your Attitude~

It's simple, it doesn't require much explanation. You can make your own definition of it...

Until I've given it much more thoughts, I'll just end this topic here...
